Summer Reading Finale Party at Landrum Library (Thursday, August 2, 2018, 6 – 7pm) Children ages 0-12 who have successfully completed the Summer Reading challenge can celebrate being a Summer Reading rock star with an ice cream sundae bar party. Spin the prize wheel as you receive your certificate to win even more prizes.

Watch and Build: Lego Ninjago Movie at Cyrill-Westside Library (Thursday, August 2, 2018, 6 – 8pm) Come build, build, build while we screen the Lego Ninjago Movie.

August 3

Kids Night Out at Hearts of Clay (Friday August 3, 6:00 pm) You can drop your kids off at Hearts of Clay the FIRST FRIDAY of EVERY MONTH around 6:00 pm! They will feed them dinner and spend time painting pottery, canvases or clay building. Pick up time is 8:15pm. $25 per child. $10 deposit preferred. Reservations needed ahead of time.

Open Mic Night for High School Students at Hub City BookShop (Friday August 3 7:00-8:00pm) Hub City Bookshop is hosting an open mic 7p.m. the first Friday of every month for local high school students! Please bring up to three original pieces (no more than 3 minutes long). There will be a galley (free books!) give away to all participants.

Mini Makers Morning Out: Slime Time at Headquarters Library (Saturday, August 4, 2018, 11am – 12pm) Do you want to learn about the science of slimy things? Build Bookworm Bookends at Home Depot (Saturday August 4, 9-12pm) Head to the nearest Home Depot for a hands on workshop to build bookworm bookends! Your child can personalize the bookends with paint and stickers. The activity is FREE and each child receives a certificate of achievement, an apron, and a pin while supplies last! Needle Felted Cactus Workshop at Spartanburg Art Museum (Sunday August 19, 1:30pm-4:30pm) Learn the basics of 3D needle felting as you create a cute mini cactus garden. No watering or sunlight required. Workshop participants must register ahead of time and no drop-ins. Children, teens and adults are welcome but children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult and work on one project together. Children over the age of 8 are welcome to attend alone. Additional family members can attend for $30 after the first registration at full price. If additional family members are registering, please register in person. If the adult is assisting a child, only one registration is necessary. Twenty dollars of your registration fee is used to pay for your felting supplies.

Hub City Kids
At Hub City Kids, our mission is to promote community involvement, local activities, health, and creativity for kids in Spartanburg.  We use visual reminders on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to keep parents up to date with exciting things happening in Spartanburg while also providing creative ways to enjoy the many beautiful places in Spartanburg County.

We are Sarah Kate Abee and Katie Burnett-childhood friends, Spartanburg natives, and moms of preschoolers with hearts for serving children.  This, combined with our professions in the fields of early childhood education and pediatric occupational therapy, gives us a unique perspective and understanding of the importance of keeping kids active and involved in the community.  As we searched for quality activities for our own children, we saw the need for an easy to access resource for parents that compiles local events and opportunities for kids.

A few things you can expect to find on our site includes: pictures of kids' activities in the Spartanburg community, healthy snack ideas, “boredom busters,” scavenger hunts for local trails, and kid friendly community service ideas. While our passion at Hub City Kids is sharing all of the awesome free activities already happening in our community, we also offer advertising services for businesses that align with our four areas of focus.
