What do you get when you combine local talent and the magic of the stage? South Carolina Children’s Theatre! For over 30 years, SCCT has brought quality entertainment, education and outreach to the Upstate. The programs include five MainStage productions at the Peace Center Gunter Theatre as well as 2nd Stage shows, WeePlay Theatre, a Theatre Arts Conservatory, touring shows and bullying prevention to schools and outreach partnerships with child-centered agencies and organizations.
If you are looking for family fun, you are sure to find it at SCCT. Season subscriptions are now available online for the first time and the 2017-2018 line-up is one of the best yet. “Four out of five of our shows are musicals for the musical theatre lovers out there. All of our shows are educational, providing valuable lessons for both children and adults”, says Michelle Ward, Marketing Director. SCCT opens with the hugely popular PINKALICIOUS the Musical in September.
The holiday show this year is a brand new musical appropriately named SANTA CLAUS: A New Musical. 2018 opens with the very popular JUNIE B. JONES IS NOT A CROOK and spring brings our favorite flat friend from the page to the stage in THE MUSICAL ADVENTURES OF FLAT STANLEY. The season will close with the motion picture hit, MADAGASCAR- A Musical Adventure. As with all of our shows, characters come out into the lobby after each performance offering families photo and autograph time. The kids love this and the parents get to keep the memories forever. Season subscriptions for 3, 4 and 5-show packages are available online.
Single tickets will be available on August 1. Visit http://www.peacecenter.org/events/resident-companies/south-carolina-childrens-theatre to purchase a season subscription and save.
There are plenty of exciting happenings at SCCT in between these productions. The 2nd Stage offers smaller shows that appeal to similar audiences. WeePlay Theatre is a great way to introduce the wee wee ones to theatre (0-5). “Participation is encouraged and it’s a wonderful chance for parents or caregivers to interact with their little ones in an intimate theatre environment”, says Debbie Bell, Executive Director. Events include The Princess Academy in November, Milk & Cookies in December, The 23rd Annual Character Breakfast in March and the 11th Annual Caribbean Crush. Don’t forget about classes offered year-round. Fall classes will go online in August and start in September.
All of this and more make South Carolina Children’s Theatre a must-do for families with children of all ages. For more information, visit scchildrenstheatre.org or call 864-235-2885.
