United Ministries’ Honor Card Illustrates a Tradition of Giving

GREENVILLE, S.C. (November 14, 2017) – United Ministries announces 2017 holiday honor card art by Meredith Piper.  For over twenty years, United Ministries has asked a local artist to create a piece of artwork that includes a sense of the holidays, a sense of poverty, and a Greenville scene.  The artwork is turned into a beautiful holiday greeting card that can be used to honor family, friends, clients, or colleagues.  A donation made in someone’s honor to United Ministries also honors someone in our community who truly needs the kind of support the gift provides.

This year’s artist, Meredith Piper, grew up in Louisiana and now resides in Greenville, South Carolina with her husband and two pups.  Her work is comprised of contemporary acrylic and oil paintings, as well as woven textile pieces encased in wood.  About her painting, Meredith says, “The only reminders that Greenville was once the textile capital of the world are its abandoned mills and smoke stacks.  But these forgotten brick fortresses are not part of the backdrop of our beloved Swamp Rabbit Trail.  Today, we couldn’t imagine our city without them.  I hope this painting can serve as a symbolic reminder that everything and everyone deserves a second chance at life.”

Thousands of Greenville County residents seek second chances at United Ministries each year.  United Ministries is able to provide life-changing opportunities through integrating services in education and employment, crisis assistance, and homeless services.

“Now, more than ever, it is important that we care for God’s children in need.  United Ministries’ holiday honor cards really capture the spirit of the season. They have become a valued tradition for many, a premier way to express appreciation to family members and friends while helping United Ministries foster transformation through service and empowerment,” says Tony McDade, executive director.
