Cheers to a New Year! It sounds cliché, but I always get excited about a new year—a chance to re-set, stop worrying about last year’s stressors, and look to the future. This year, I’m especially excited to work hard to put a new business plan into action.
In 2017, I was quite fortunate to have my luxury and designer resale store, Top Drawer, grow in a way I never imagined. When I began the business, I prepared for the worst. I figured I may have a few sales each month and fretted about obtaining inventory. I never imagined an inventory of 1,000+ pieces, and not enough time to devote to them all. I worked frantically to inventory, display, and market all the pieces and do the best job possible for each consignor. But I did lose some things in the meantime: time with my family and my original vision and plan for the business.
By the end of the year, I decided to take a breath, refocus, and edit. As a small business owner, one of the most important lessons I learned this year is this: You must control your business; don’t let your business control you. I was letting my business dictate what I was doing, and not the other way around.
So, I’m returning to my original vision for Top Drawer, with the online launch of my Top 100 on January 16. The website will feature our Top 100 hand-picked luxury and designer pieces of women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories at a fraction of their resale prices. Shoppers can also make purchases through our social media accounts, and at select trunk shows throughout the year.
Mark your calendars, and be on the lookout for the launch! You can find Top Drawer online at www.shoptopdrawer.net, on Instagram @shop_top_drawer, on Facebook @shoptopdrawersc, and on Twitter @shop_top_drawer.
