Meet Faith Pope

We are always on the lookout for local people to feature. When we met Faith Pope, we were smitten (and you will be, too). Enjoy getting to know her and finding

TC: Welcome! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

FP: My name is Faith Pope, and I own a small business in Spartanburg called Top Drawer Curated Women’s Consignment. I also live in Spartanburg with my husband, Gary, our son, Grady, and our dog, Celeste. I am involved in our community through the Junior League of Spartanburg, The Charles Lea Center Foundation, the Advent Children’s Center Commission, and the Spartanburg Day School Alumni Council.

TC: So how did you end up in Spartanburg?

FP: I’m an upstate native, and grew up in Gaffney, SC. I attended the Spartanburg Day School and Wofford College. I spent most of my after school hours at Miss Marion’s School of Dance or at tennis and piano lessons in Spartanburg. Going to college in this town allowed me to experience it differently, and I had the time of my life at Wofford!

Immediately after college, I went to USC for law school and lived in Columbia for about 10 years. I’d always longed to get back to a smaller, more cohesive and engaging community, so when our son was born, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get back to the area. Luckily, my husband’s law firm has an office here, as well, so it worked out!

TC: What’s different about Spartanburg now than when you left?

FP: Wow! It’s a different world. The downtown revitalization is particularly exciting. There are so many new (great!) restaurants, lovely boutiques, and cultural opportunities. While we may have had some of these 15 – 20 years ago, the enthusiasm is different. It’s contagious, and the whole community seems to want our city to succeed. I am excited about the progress in Spartanburg, and love being a part of its growth!

TC: So you went to law school, but now own a retail business?

FP: Yes! It’s a long story, but I ultimately didn’t see myself practicing law forever. I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to jump, so I did! I have always been fashion and style oriented, and wanted to work in a more artistically creative field.

The idea of starting an upscale women’s consignment store came to me when we returned to town about a year and a half ago, and I got to work! I initially ran the business out of my home (what a mess!), and was lucky enough to move into a fantastic space on Pine Street on March 1, 2017.

TC: What is the idea behind Top Drawer?

FP: We sell women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories, and our fashion philosophy embraces quality over quantity. It’s our goal to make luxury, designer, and boutique items more accessible. Top Drawer offers quality, well-made pieces at more affordable prices. Each piece is hand-selected and is in excellent condition. So, if you need anything from a professional work dress to the most coveted cult-brand boots, Top Drawer is the place to look!

TC: So how do we find Top Drawer?

FP: We’re located at 844 South Pine Street in Spartanburg. Top Drawer is in the back of the SPRUCE Spartanburg building (an absolute must-visit interior décor collective). The building is across from Morningside Baptist Church.

You can also follow Top Drawer on Instagram (@shop_top_drawer) and Facebook (@shoptopdrawersc), as we offer shipping on items posted on social media. Finally, you can check out our website at www.shoptopdrawer.net.
